Mythology
Our study of mythology concentrates on the gods and goddesses of the Greek tradition. We study mythology not only because ancient Greek mythology is one of the most alluded to texts of all time, but also because the stories are fun to read! We'll combine our study of these characters and stories with a study of the structure of the short story and various methods of note-taking.
Our study of Ancient Greek mythology begins with a look at what mythology is, why myths exist, and types of myths. We will examine the pantheon of Ancient Greece to trace the origin of their gods and goddesses, and then focus on various stories about these characters and their adventures. We will discuss note-taking strategies along the way so that we record the most pertinent information about mythology and about specific myths.
Here are links to some of the information that will be presented in class. Download anything you need, and email or see me in class if you have any questions.
As we study mythology, we will be mindful that, although no longer a part of a modern religion, these characters were important to ancient cultures, and therefore a part of some of our peers' family histories. We will be respectful about these stories, just as we expect our peers to be respectful of our personal histories.
