Check out what's happening with Team Salk!

Check here for information about Team Salk.  See what we're up to, read about upcoming events, and hear the latest news first!

Welcome to Team Salk!

Team Salk is named for Jonas Salk, the University of Pittsburgh-based scientist who developed the polio vaccine. Like our namesake, Team Salk pushes the limits to achieve the best!

Students of Team Salk are taught by four core teachers:

Mrs. Barbara Brown--language arts

Ms. Melissa Giaquinto--social studies

Ms. Mary Collins--mathematics

Mrs. Melissa Markowski--science

In addition to your four core teachers, Team Salk has three other teachers who join us for homeroom and specials:

Dr. Jackie Conkle--health/physical education

Mr. Joe Bayto--technology education/robotics

Mr. Sean Appel--reading/literature

We have been working together for many years, and we're confident that you will love being on our team.  We strive to make learning fun and useful, and to help you become a better student and a better person along the way.

Welcome!  We're glad you're here!

Team Spirit Days

On Thursdays, we love to show our #purplepride!  We hope you'll join us  by wearing your TEAM SALK shirt!  Some weeks we change it up for a good cause, so make sure to check the calendar each week.

Team Salk Spirit Days

September 4

Wear PURPLE, the color of the ribbon for Polio Awareness and Post-Polio Syndrome.  With our official team color, Team Salk honors our namesake, Jonas Salk, for developing the polio vaccine and working to make it available to all.

Tuesdays throughout the year

Wear your PURPLE TEAM SALK SHIRT each week to celebrate our team spirit (and in anticipation of our spring intramural competitions)!

September 11

Wear REDWHITE, and BLUE to show your patriotism and to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the USA in New York City, in Shanksville, and at the Pentagon.

Homework Help

Seventh graders are obviously responsible, but there are times when we all need a little extra support!

Assignment Book

Your go-to. Each day, write down your homework in all classes. If you don't see something posted, ask your teacher.  If there is no homework in the class, write "NH" or "none" in your assignment book.

Homework Page

Housed on the PTMS website (see Handy Links page), the homework page lists homework from every teacher in the middle school.  Find Team Salk for your core homework. Special area teachers are in alphabetical order following the teams.

Remind

Remind is a text- or email-based system through which your teacher can send periodic reminders about projects, tests, and other assignments.  If a current assignment is changed or added, your teacher may send a message through Remind to update you.  Ask if your teacher uses Remind and see if you can sign up.

HOTSHOTS

HOTSHOTS is an after-school program for students who need somewhere to do homework where they can focus and get some help when they need it.  It runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the middle school library from 3:00 until 4:00.  If you are interested in attending, you can get a sign-up form from the guidance office, or you can download one from the guidance page of the middle school website (see Handy Links page above).

I Still Have Some Questions...

If you still have some questions about the middle school, about 7th grade, about your classes, about sports or activities, about ANYTHING, we're here to help!

Before School

Stop in to see any of your teachers before school starts. You are permitted to enter the building at 7:45 AM.

Homeroom

You can talk to your homeroom teacher about any issues you are having. Your homeroom teacher can send you to talk to other teachers during that time, as well.

Study Hall

Your study hall teacher can help you with more than homework!  Ask any questions you have, and if your teacher can't help you, you'll be sent to someone who can!

Guidance

Ms. Kenny, 7th grade guidance counselor, will see you anytime you need her. Just ask your teacher to send you to her office, or stop by on your own.
