Study Island (SI) Benchmark Reading Comprehension Test

When you enter the middle school, we don't know that much about you.  One of the ways we find information about you as a student--specifically as a reader--is through the Study Island testing system.

Study Island is a website that offers reading and math comprehension exercises and tests.  In language arts, we log onto the site in the first week of school to take a benchmark reading comprehension test.  It's called a "benchmark" because it gives us a measurement of your current reading level.  Once the tests are analyzed, if we find that your comprehension is lower than we'd like it to be, you may be placed in a study group that meets once or twice a week during homeroom.

If you are in a reading class in 7th grade, you may use Study Island during class to practice different skills and to take quizzes on those skills.  Whether you take reading or not, you can access Study Island from home if you feel you need extra practice.

At the end of the year in language arts, we will log in again to take the end-year benchmark.  We'll use that data to compare you to you: to see how your reading comprehension improved over the year.  That information will be used by your 8th grade teachers in conjunction with a new benchmark test you'll take at the start of 8th grade.

Once you get your log-in in the first week of language arts, you can sign in and get to work!
